Dr. Ross

Meet Steven Ross, MD, FACP, FAHA

I have enjoyed practicing internal medicine in the greater Florence and Pee Dee areas of South Carolina for over 30 years now. I love what I do and enjoy the relationships I have been able to form with my patients and their families over the years.

As a private doctor, I am also able to make house calls for my home-bound patients and be available during hospitalizations. I still admit and care for my patients at McLeod Regional Medical Center and the Carolinas Hospital System. This is rare in today's healthcare environment and what makes my practice so unique.

As a primary care physician, my goal is to prevent disease through wellness care and to manage complex chronic health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, liver disease and lung disease when they are present. I strive for all of my patients to enjoy healthy and happy lives. I also offer conveniences, like same- or next-day appointments that start on time, which may be found in concierge medicine practices.

In addition to being board certified in internal medicine, I am a certified hypertension specialist and enjoy the challenges of treating complex and resistant cases of hypertension (high blood pressure). I have taken special training in adult echocardiography and have been certified by the American Society of Echocardiography as a testamur in echocardiography. This knowledge also helps me to better manage complicated cases of cardiovascular disease.

As a lifelong student, I have placed an emphasis on medical treatment based on current science and clinical trials and continue to study and read medical literature to stay abreast of current medical knowledge. I was valedictorian at the Medical University of South Carolina and went on to complete internal medicine training at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Doctors who operate in the MDVIP models typically see far fewer patients than traditional primary care doctors. That gives them more time to develop deeper doctor-patient relationships that can lead to better outcomes. They can also offer conveniences that most primary care doctors can’t, including same- and next-day appointments. They’re available after hours for urgent matters. And they have time to focus on prevention. That focus begins with the MDVIP Wellness Program, which patients pay for with their annual membership fee.

Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.

MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.

Afraid a lot of physical things are out of reach for me but Dr. Ross still gives me the encouragement to do as much as I can.

Afraid a lot of physical things are out of reach for me but Dr. Ross still gives me the encouragement to do as much as I can. He also gives me the incentive to eat healthier and try to lose weight. Since I cannot do a lot with exercising the loss is slow but it is better. He is one of the most caring and knowledgeable doctors I have ever seen!

The pressure is off!

The pressure is off! In the past, after an hour or more of waiting to see the doctor I began to have waiting room syndrome: high blood pressure, dry mouth and anxiety. Now, a brief wait, I am greeted by the doctor with a warm smile and we proceed with a relaxed visit.
If I have a happy, healthy, more relaxed doctor I am going to be a better patient. I have been able to reach him Read more...
