Upon return from an extended weekend attending my alma mater's basketball games in the Midwest, I called Dr. Menteer that I had a slightly elevated temperature and was feeling weak. She immediately arranged an appointment and upon her brief examination, had one of her office staff (thank you, Leah) push me in a wheelchair across the street to the Emergency Room of Los Robles Hospital. After multiple tests, it turned out I had an abscess in my appendix that could prove dangerous if it was punctured. Dr. Menteer arranged to have a phenomenal surgeon, Dr. Fujita, perform the installation of a drain tube to drain the abscess and shrink the appendix for removal safely at a later date. At that later date, while removing the shrunken appendix labroscopically, Dr. Fujita discovered an adjacent tumor attached to the colon. Pathology of the tumor proved to be cancer requiring further surgery to remove it and part of the adjacent colon. This surgery was performed two weeks later with the pathology of the colon and lymph nodes proving benign! All of this because Dr. Menteer reacted so quickly to send me on a wheelchair to the Emergency Room for examination. Thank you, Dr. Menteer and team!!!!
