Dear Dr. Robertson, It will be hard to ever fully express just how much you mean to my Mom and me - how grateful we are that you chose the path of being a primary care doctor and joined MDVIP to be able to maintain the type of practice you have always provided - incredible patient care, the ability to get an appointment the same day if needed and as much time as needed, your constant vigilance when Mom was in the hospital, your genuine caring nature, your practical advice, your vast knowledge of the human body (you amaze me with that!), your diligent research on the newest medicines and treatments, your help in navigating today’s complex medical system, your prompt replies to calls and texts, no matter the day or time, that you hired a wonderful competent and caring nurse in Jamie, and above all, your friendship. It is wonderful to see you in the local supermarket and stop for a chat; to spend a minute sharing experiences with our children and elderly parents, to talk about all the things that challenge us professionally and what we do to take care of ourselves, to help manage stress, and other coping skills, and to celebrate our achievements and accomplishments! I love that you know our families, our children’s names and where they are in life (and as a result, where we are in life), that you connect us with specialists, communicate with the specialists to stay totally on top of our healthcare, and when needed, help us book more immediate appointments with the specialists who are booked months into the future. As my mom ages and meets with health challenges that inevitably come with aging, I am particularly thankful that you are by her side, helping her to age graciously, and with dignity, knowing that she has the best doctor in the world caring for her, and for me. 

Which special moment shall I write about? Maybe the time Dr. Janet Robertson thought there was more to a chest x-ray diagnosis than the report that came with it. Doctor R sent me for a CAT scan which revealed an SE and a DVT. Saved my life? Probably! Or maybe I should relate the story of how she took my telephone call at 2 a.m. when I woke with pressure in my chest. She sent me to the closest hospital by ambulance then arranged my stent insertion by the cardiologist practice she had thoughtfully recommended when I turned 50 years old. Or would it be the time she sent me to my genius oncologist because she didn’t like the look of my borderline high white blood count? That was in the year 2005. Yes, I had early CLL. That’s under control now. My finger is getting tired, so I’ll stop here. Bottom line . . . I’m 83 and feeling good. Oh I moved 100 miles away after I retired. But I still have Dr. Robertson as my medical Commander-in -Chief. It’s a short ride when I listen to my audio books. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to tell Dr. Robertson what I think about when I count my blessings.
