WHAT A DIFFERENCE YOU'VE MADE IN OUR LIFE
In September, 2012, my husband became very ill. He was having considerable back pain and received a steroid injection at Insight Imaging in Roanoke, Virginia in hopes that he would get some relief, but was soon hospitalized after a late night call from the corporate offices of Insight Imaging where the injection was administered. They told me to take Ferman to Roanoke Memorial Hospital IMMEDIATELY because the injection that he receive was tainted. The call was received on October 3, 2012 and after getting in touch with Dr. Chaconas, I IMMEDIAELY took Ferman to RMH where he was admitted. He was treated for fungal meningitis with drugs that caused horrible side effects and he suffered a stroke that the doctors said was caused by the fungal meningitis. It was a terrifying experience and he would not return home until November 13, 2012. He received in-hospital PT and returned home in a wheelchair with continued in-home physical therapy. He was under the care of Infectious Disease Doctors and the loving care of Dr. Chaconas. It was a nightmare and Dr. Chaconas was our lifeline throughout this ordeal. This happened before he became an MDVIP physician, but I tell you this so you know that has always been a caring physician and he's like family to us.
In April of 2019, Ferman was suffering immense pain throughout his body. We went to see Dr. Chaconas and he was relentless and very determined to get to the bottom of the problem. He talked with Ferman about all that was going on; he ran tests; tried medications, and was finally able to determine that he had Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR). He immediately started treating this condition and has gotten Ferman's pain to a tolerable level. He can't turn cartwheels, but his pain is better. AND if he has more issues, we know we can always count on Dr. Chaconas to listen to us and help us.
We feel so blessed to have him as our Physician. When we hear other people talk about the difficulties they have getting an appointment with their doctor and then getting them to listen to them, we tell them how very fortunate we are. Dr. Chaconas is a blessing!!!
