Top Gun in Medicine - Dr Terry Holster

This phrase may seem odd to describe a physician. However, the term means "the most important, influential or skilled person in a given sphere." There are many attributes one wants and needs in a physician...trust, competency, knowledge and skills, honesty and integrity, empathy and compassion, persistence and advocacy, problem solving, collaboration and teamwork and a great "bedside" manner to bring it all together Dr. Terry Holster has all of these. I have worked with and gone to many physicians in my many years. What is so different about my MDVIP doctor? Well, he has all of these attributes and takes the time to know and understand the big picture. Furthermore, he will take the time to truly listen. An example of this is a visit I had when we discussed a test result that had me concerned. (I am a retired R.N.) Our discussion consisted of the results, trends, family history and what could be done to improve the results. As I was pretty much doing all the right things, or so I thought, I queried about what else I could do. We decided that I not only continue with my current regimen but enhance it further, increase the efforts of diet, exercise, reduction of stress, and discuss further options with my specialist. At the end of our conversation, he said one thing to me that has helped me more than I could imagine. He said "It is what it is" referring to the genetic component. Since it is highly likely this issue is one of genetics, the comment he made has stayed with me and made me work even harder to do the absolute best I can to stay healthy. I can control my diet, exercise and environment but I have absolutely no control over my heredity. I guess you could say that because of his very astute and truthful comment, I have gone on to improve my health much further with even better dieting, enhanced work outs, strength training and loss of weight. I am so thankful that I have a physician to whom I am not just a number.
