Quite some years ago, I worked at POH, what is now McLaren Hospital.
On my way in, early one morning, I decided to stop in the ER because I did not feel well. My cold was getting worse. The physician there, prescribed Levaquin, although I kept telling him that Zithromax worked just fine. I was very familiar with this medicine through reading Medical Records. I was a coder. I never liked the name of this medicine and I was very clairvoyant.
As soon as I took my first pill, I started with severe abdominal cramps, followed by severe colonic bleed. Quickly ran to POH ER where I could get help from doctors that were familiar to me and where I felt comfortable enough to get the best treatment. I was instantly admitted.
To note here that around this same time, there had been a buzz in the hospital about this new doctor that was making an impact on the hospital administrators. My director could not stop talking about him and praise his work. He was a step above the rest.
It seemed that my case was puzzling at first. Many questions about my eating habits, travels etc. I discussed everything to the minutest detail. I did leave out that I had gone to Guatemala. When this was known the physicians placed me in Infectious disease. Deep in my heart I knew it was simply the Levaquin.
It took a while to conclude, after everything else was ruled out.
Dr. Barnes was given the case in his hands. We never spoke one word. I would see him writing all the time. My director came up and told me who he was and that he was her doctor too. She explained how great of a doctor he was and how he had impressed everyone in charge. I used to think that he was ready to tell me that I was dying and to call the family.
After a week, which was now Easter Sunday, I was told I could go home.
You can imagine how I felt. My life was given back to me.
I owe him, and I owe him my whole life.
I took the decision to become his patient and I have never regretted ever since.
Thorough, patient, never rushed, treats every case so individually, that you think you were his only patient. He has a great big heart. Recently in the questionnaire, one of the questions really stumbled me. Would you still join MDVIP if your doctor decides to retire at some point?
Wow, how can I have a sincere answer to this puzzling question?
If Dr. Barnes retires, that would be almost fatal and catastrophic for me.
He came first, then MDVIP. It was automatic to join, I did not want to lose my doctor. But now what would I do if he decides to leave?
Dr.Barnes has been my pillar of strength. He does not only treat your ailments and diseases, but he is also a psychologist, psychiatrist, and helps you out in all your emotional and psychological problems. This is what makes him so special. He becomes a confidante, a friend, someone you can really really trust, apart that he is probably the brightest star in the whole constellation.
He finds solutions prior to travels. He goes to the right prescriptions, that befit your needs. He is aware and careful of drug interactions. Do you want me to go on with all the accolades I have gathered about Dr. Robert Barnes' characater? I will need more than this space. I am not making this up, this is up, but this is an unsolicited testimonial coming from the heart. Lately, I had fallen into some unheralded debt and had to write him a letter that I would have to leave MDVIP. This most going to be a very traumatic event in my life. How could I live without MDVIP and go back to the waiting lines, and waiting days, and begging for appointments when you need it the most. Which doctor is going to replace him?
I was very stressed out, but God works in wondrous ways and he did find a solution for me too.
I honestly can say, that I have a great physician as my doctor, a great man who loves his patients and does not look at them as his paycheck.
A man who has been known to visit patients who are immobilized or bed ridden. His heart is so big that no one would be able to fit, not only in his shoes, but neither in his heart. Knowing that he is young, I feel comfortable that I will be gone way before he retires and that is a blessing to me. I have enjoyed great health through his good advice and insistence. At my age of 74, I manage to surprise others who call me the energizer.
Thank You Dr. Barnes for doing you best in keeping us healthy and increasing our longevity.
Your Grateful Patient
Fabiola T.
