Sharing bad news in a good way
In May of 2021 during a regular visit, I shared with Dr Mark Fleschler that I had been having trouble shallowing and had coughed up blood. He immediatley scheduled a CT scan. I then got a call from his office as he wanted to see me at 4pm. Expecting bad news, I brought my wife along. Of course, it was bad news – throat cancer. What struck me was that Dr. Fleschler sat side by side with me to deliver the news in a very gentle way. He also emphasized that I was not going to die and that he had already schedule appointments with the radiation specialist as well as the cancer doctor. His proactive approach to my treatment was quite reassuring. And yes, my treatment was successful (albeit painful…) and I can continue in Dr. Fleschler care. Thank you doctor.
