A physician and a friend

Dr. Newton ("Newt") Allen, I can think of dozens of stories, but my favorite is Newt's annual Christmas party to which my wife (Avis) and I have had the pleasure of attending for many years. Nothing fancy, bring a plate, have a cup of hot cider, visit with friends and fellow patients...then gather around the piano as we sing Christmas carols. I know it's corny, but it is a singular Norman Rockwell moment. Without question, the very best Christmas party to which I have ever been invited. Newt and his darling bride Burkley epitomize the image of the family physician practice. Up until recently, he continued to round on his patients that were in the hospital. This just does NOT happen anymore. I am blessed to have Newt in my corner...and to top it all off, I consider him a dear personal friend!
