My nominee, Laura Oppenheimer
I would like to nominate my doctor, Laura Oppenheim. It has been a little over 2 years since I joined her practice at Ninth Street Internal Medicine.. Before that I was in the Penn system since I was a Penn employee. I had seen several primary physicians over the years and one by one they moved on. I had to really work hard to find another doctor but eventually found one who was taking new patients.. After seeing her for a few years it became clear to me that she was not going to call me back if I needed to speak to a doctor, I would write to her and only received callbacks from, at the most, a nurse practitioner. I only saw her once a year for my annual physical. I am now in my larte 70"s and I wanted and needed a doctor I could easily contact. A friend recommended Laura Oppenheim. After meeting with her I decided to join her practice in spite of the cost which is a stretch for me. She is engaging and lovely to speak with and, more importantly she listens and not only listens but remembers what we spoke about, I don't only mean the medical issues but the personal conversations we've had from visit to visit. During a recent visit she asked me about a family issue I had previously mentioned. She was about to leave since our visit was over and I know that she was busy but she pulled up her chair and sat down to talk with me. That really meant so much to me. Knowing that she is there for me gives me peace of mind which is as important to me as her medical expertise which is vast. I'm very grateful to have her on my side.
