A Moment to Remember with B Bottenberg
A moment to remember, one that made a difference to me how I think of Doctor B. I had been a patient of B’s since 2006. He decided to become an MDVIP doctor and that ended our doctor/patient relationship at that time. I decided it was too costly - I didn’t understand the program – and it was just time for me to move on and find a different doctor. Well, I did that. After a short struggle and other doctors not really welcoming new patients, and delayed appointments to become a “new patient”, I succeeded in obtaining a “new” GP. That “new” doctor situation went on for a couple of years, basically following the protocol that B. had established for me. Appointments were not easily scheduled, but I was getting the medical care to get me by. Then, the “new” doctor announced he was retiring from practice. Here I go again, having to go through the disheartening process of finding another doctor. Then toward the middle of that doctor appointment after I had learned of his impending retirement, he looks up from his computer and says to me, “Now… Who are you?” Well, that pretty much sealed my fate of getting another doctor. I came to the conclusion that the extra cost for me to be an MDVIP patient was going to be worth it. Now, if B. only has room for another patient in his practice I will sign up. TODAY. I did, and returned to the care that B. had been giving me in our previous doctor/patient relationship. Appointments were easy to get, yearly thorough checkups done, and the simplicity of getting prescriptions sent to the pharmacies was well worth the added expense. The same staff I had gotten to know were still at his practice offering the same friendly service. Now for that one memorable moment… about a year and one half ago, I had contracted a respiratory condition that I had put off being treated for. Because of my stubbornness, I felt I was slipping into that area of being “sicker than a dog”. Oh, and it was a Friday morning and I worried I couldn’t get in to see Doctor B. on such short notice that day. B’s receptionist, Molly, answered the early morning phone call and told me to be there within the hour and to call her when I arrived in the parking lot. Much to my surprise B. came out of his office to my car, masked and gowned to avoid any contamination risk I might pose. (This was in the day Covid infections were still very active.) After assessing my condition he prescribed antibiotics, steroids, and an inhaler to treat my illness. He also hinted that I should not wait until almost dying before I seek treatment for my future ill conditions. Wow! A doctor that will treat a patient in their car, in the parking lot. Masked and gowned to protect me, himself, his staff, and other patients. Wow! All that is left to say is, Thank You, to you and your staff B!
