A Lymphedema Story
In April of 2022 I went to see my doctor, James Purpura, due to swelling of my lower left leg and foot. I had been experiencing this swelling for five to six months hoping it would just go away. Dr. Purpura looked at my leg and explained that a blood clot needed to be ruled out. He scheduled me for urgent doppler/duplex imaging for veins of the leg within the hour! Fortunately the results were negative. However, he still had concerns about the swelling so he ordered a CT venogram of the abdomen and pelvis. This was also negative.
Ultimately, I was diagnosed with isolated lymphedema of the leg. When Dr. Purpura informed me of my diagnosis, he did so in a manner that helped me understand that lymphedema was not life threatening and could be very manageable. I appreciate the way he educated me regarding my condition. He referred me to a doctor who treated my lymphedema and helped me develop a maintenance plan.
Dr. Purpura diagnosed my lymphedema in a very timely manner. He helped direct me towards a successful path of maintenance for my condition which I will work to manage for the remainder of my life. I am very grateful for the support of Dr. James Purpura.
