Long-time patient

I joke with Dr. Mikos, that he has been taking care of me longer than my mother! I have been a patient for more than 20 years. Dr. Mikos has always been pro-active with my health, and because of that I have for years faithfully received my annual check-up. I actually began to look forward to them, because each year showed I was not only in good health, but I was in almost perfect health. That changed a little bit in 2016 when my annual exam showed an elevated PSA. We followed up and it turned out I have prostate cancer. I was treated with radiation in 2017, and it is now in remission. My exam in 2019 showed elevated blood levels that suggested I could have multiple myeloma. Turns out I did. I got a stem cell transplant in September of 2019 and am doing well. The point is neither of these conditions would have been detected early if it hadn't been for Dr. Mikos. Had I not received treatment at early stages of these cancers the outcome may have been very different. During my cancer treatments, Dr. Mikos has followed my progress closely and stayed in touch to see how I was doing. Dr. Mikos is MY doctor. And that is a very comforting thought.
