Lifesaving Recommendation
In December, 2020 I saw Dr. David Fisher in Cincinnati and I had what appeared to be a swollen lymph node on my neck. I was preparing to leave Cincinnati to go to Phoenix, AZ for the winter. He prescribed an antibiotic and told me emphatically if the swelling was not gone in 2 weeks, I should see an oncologist. in the Phoenix area. I was able to get an appointment at M D Anderson Cancer Center with a surgical oncologist. After preliminary testing, he performed a surgical biopsy. The result was metastatic melanoma. I then had a PET scan that showed numerous spots on my lungs. The surgical oncologist said I had 3-6 months unless one of the new, at that time, immunotherapies would work for me. He took me down the hall to a medical oncologist who put me on. Keytruda every 3 weeks for 2 years. After 3 months a PET scan showed no spots on my lungs. Another PET scan after 9 months was clear and the medical oncologist declared me to be in remission. A picture of my wife and I that night at dinner at the El Chorro restaurant is attached. Dr Fisher''s advice and emphasis turned out to be a lifesaver for me.
