A Journey
I think perhaps the moment that stands out from a medical perspective was the first time my cholesterol reading dropped below 200. I have been struggling with this since my late twenties. Dr Borders and I have been on a multi-year journey to this point. Multiple attempts to take statins failed over the course of many years and different doctors (due to relocations) until Dr Borders eased me onto a newer drug. Together with the extensive and detailed monitoring he conducts as part of this program, I have managed to tolerate this drug and he has created a regime that has been successful. This close clinical monitoring has improved my risk for a cardiac or stroke event. Dr Borders always provides extensive education and explanation that is understandable but also respectful of my 50 years of nursing experience. I know my health could not be in better hands!
I also need to comment that Dr Borders exemplifies the all important, but so rarely found, interest in his patients as individuals. He takes time to learn about me as a person, - my interests and well being beyond my medical data. I will share a very touching example. Last summer, after sharing that I had entered some sewing items in the State fair for the first time and they won first place as well as Best in Show, he asked if I had pictures. He took the time to view them with me in spite of his busy schedule. I was very touched and I think the pictures demonstrated how much the arthritis in my hands impacts my ability to pursue my passion of exacting hand sewing in ways that words could not convey. This exemplifies Dr Borders concern and desire to understand his patients needs beyond the clinical aspects alone. He is a very skilled practitioner and an amazing person.
