I’m happy to continue to remain Dr Payne’s patient.
Aside from the typical accolades, I had a life saving experience due to a decision Dr Payne made in 2006.
I had been a long time smoker and was becoming more and more concerned about Lung Cancer. A annual chest Xray was the standard of care for smokers but are not very effective, so I requested a CT in place of the Xray . Even though I was asymptomatic, she ordered the CT. It showed a very small lesion that turned out to be cancer. It would not have been seen in an Xray, as evidenced by an Xray ordered by the thoracic surgeon 2 weeks later. If not for her decision to order the CT, I would not be here today.
I dont know if she is aware of the ripple effect her decision has made. The most important one to me is the opportunity to have spent these past 11 years with my granddaughters, now 14 yrs old, and soon to be 12 yrs old , not to mention my 8 yr old grandson and 3 yr old granddaughter I never would have met.
Another outcome of Dr Paynes gift of survival to me is the ability Ive had to continue my profession as a singer/songwriter. Because of her decision, I was able to express my experience as a survivor through a song, Breathe Hope, dedicated to her. It has become an anthem, if you will, for the Lungevity Foundation and the Ohio State University fundraiser. that goes directly to Lung Cancer research at OSU. The phrase that has been relayed to me that sums up peoples reaction to the song is,not a dry eye in the room. So, between galas, fundraisers and YouTube, Dr Paynes decision has made it possible for literally thousands, be touched by a message of hope!
Her easy going demeanor is very comforting and she has always been very patient with my extra questions. Im happy to continue to remain Dr Paynes patient in her new practice.
Sincerely
