Imagine my surprise when Dr. Mitchell was subpoenaed as an expert witness for the plaintiff in a case where I was representing the defendant. It is quite an interesting experience cross-examining a physician to discredit his testimony, all the while knowing you trust this person with your life. Dr. Mitchell and I discussed the importance of doctor/patient privilege and the fact that I did not want anyone in the courtroom to know I was a current patient of his practice.

Our confidential relationship remained a secret throughout the trial, but the good doctor did receive a few quizzical looks from other people in the room when he casually said Goodbye Darin as he exited the courtroom. It is highly unusual for an expert witness to be informal, let alone polite, to opposing counsel after the conclusion of testifying. Thankfully, Dr. Mitchell was honest and ethical as a witness, just as he always has been as a physician.

I remain a patient of Dr. Mitchell to this day and am thankful our paths crossed during my lifetime.
