I was once 410#. I only would see a doctor in an emergency because my experience with the medical community was very degrading. Everything I sought treatment for was somehow caused by my weight. I was disrespected and considered myself to have been a person who suffered from supervised neglect. I met Dr Kalonaros after I had begun my gastric bypass journey. I finally had a physician who was in my corner. He listened to me, and over the last five years our detailed conversations have led me to better health than Ive ever enjoyed in my adult life. Hes not an alarmist, hes a realist, a humanist and patient man. Ive never been stranded while in his care. Hes called me from his home on weekends, from his vacation and even when he himself was sick. We are the same age and I hope never to need to seek another primary care physician. Im half the weight I was, my stress and anxiety are under control. I feel safe in his care.
