He Never Gives Up

When my annual physical in October 2022 revealed I was anemic, Dr. Paul Coulombe began a 14 month investigation to discover the cause. Test after test, scan after scan, was ordered, performed, analyzed and, one after another, each came back normal. Only the frequent blood tests showed anemia was still an issue. Dr. Coulombe never once wavered in his search, never said he had no more suggestions, never let my issue fall off his radar screen, and he always kept me optimistic. He recommended additional tests from specialists and every one came back normal, not identifying the cause of the problem. It was when he recommended I see a hematologist that answers finally fell into place. After more vials of blood were tested and a bone marrow biopsy was ordered, the cause of the anemia was finally discovered. Had Dr. Coulombe not be so diligent, so tenacious, so methodical and systematic about discovering the cause of the anemia, my MDS might have never been uncovered. I am fortunate to be feeling well, my condition is benign (though I realize that could change over time), and I am so fortunate to have a physician who will be there as my "quarterback" with a game plan for whatever lies ahead when it involves my health. Equal to Dr. Coulombe's skills as a physician were his compassion, empathy, availability, and kindness toward me during every step of this journey He is an honor to his profession, and a blessing to me and to each of his patients.
