A friend and doctor
I have known Tom Sultan since our nearing 50 year old children were toddlers. He has been our doctor for a very long time.
In 1999, I felt something, a sensation that I can no longer accurately recall when signing a guest book at a colleagues funeral. Maybe it was the occasion more than the sensations that got me to call Tom and he advised me to go to Glenbrook Hospital. I was admitted and was the subject a variety of tests including a treadmill all of which returned negative results. The hospital professionals suggested I just go home.
Just after they pulled the IV, Tom appeared and told me there was one small anomaly and he really thought a coronary angiogram was a good idea. I somewhat reluctantly agreed and was transferred to St Francis where the procedure identified two constricted veins in my heart and evidence of a mild heart attack. The surgeon suggested open heart but my wife & I settled on 2 stents he assured us would not last more than 5 years. 25 years have passed and I am still doing well.
I credit Tom for looking closer and seeing what others did not. I wonder if, left untreated, the next heart attack would not have been so mild. Tom provides great care along with great empathy
