Early Meeting
A most important connection for me with my current physician, Dr. Cal Dodson, occurred before he actually began practice. I had been in practice as an internist/nephrologist by myself for some time and was trying to get a young doctor to join me. Cal, who had completed his residency, was the target. One of our first meetings was at a local pub/restaurant named Wanda June’s. I brought along our youngest child, a daughter, someone closer to Cal’s age, for support. We had a grand time and after some contract haggling (our two lawyers didn’t like each other and Cal’s girlfriend, later his wife, worked for his lawyer’s firm), eventually ironed it out. Cal and I got along fine all the while. I think that contract issue was the only significant struggle we ever had. We had many years of happy practice together and from my viewpoint at least we still enjoy each other’s company. When I retired in 2002 Cal was my doctor, and has continued in that role since joining MDVIP. During that time I have had a CABG X3, a left carotid endarterectomy, repair of a ruptured quadriceps tendon, a TAVR procedure for aortic stenosis (which Cal discovered), and a pacemaker placement for heart block occurring shortly after the TAVR procedure. Cal has seen me through all of this for which I am most appreciative.
