Dr. Sharon Scanlan Has Provided Extraordinary Care on my Behalf
My name is Samuel Sipe. I am 79 years old and am living a reasonably active, healthy life. Dr Sharon Scanlan who practices in Chevy Chase, MD has been my primary care physician for over 15 years. My wife and I became her patients after our prior physician retired, It was before she became affiliated with MDCIP. I recall her saying when she joined MDVIP that a principal benefit of that affiliation was that she would have more time to give attention to individual patients. That has proven to be the case. We have always been able to see or talk to Dr. Scanlan when something has come up that has called for medical advice or care. We both have a high degree of confidence in her.
I have had two major illnesses since I became Dr. Scanlan's patient, one in 2012 that involved lengthy hospitalization following gall bladder surgery. Dr. Scanlan was not one of the many attending physicians in the hospital, but she made a point of visiting me there and following the course of my treatment and ultimate cure. It was very helpful to be able to rely on her counsel, including recommendations of specialists who could assist in my treatment. My wife and I both found Dr. Scanlan's concern and availability for consultation to be of great assistance during a difficult period in our lifes.
In 2018 I was hospitalized in a small rural hospital in Ontario, Canada with an attack of acute pancreatitis. There were significant ups and downs for a period of several weeks and eventually a determination that I needed a sophisticate surgical procedure which would have to be performed at a different facility. Dr. Scanlan was instrumental in identifying a surgeon at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore who had the necessary qualifications and she worked diligently to arrange my admission to the hospital. I was able to receive the treatment that I needed. I don't know whether that would have happened if Dr. Scanlan had not intervened on my behalf.
In short, Dr. Sharon Scanlan is precisely what one would hope for in a primary care physician. I know she is devoted to her patients' care. I have tremendous respect and admiration for what she has done on my behalf.
