Dr. Andrew Schlein…"THE BEST OF THE BEST!"
Four days before my husband Joel and I were scheduled to leave on a Mediterranean Cruise, our “Bucket List” 25th Anniversary trip of a lifetime, Joel came down with a serious UTI infection. Dr. Schlein collected a specimen and it being a Friday, requested an expedited urinalysis from his lab. Because time was so short before we were supposed to leave, Dr. Schlein, unable to determine exactly what type of UTI it was until the culture report came back, prescribed a “general” UTI antibiotic to get Joel started. Surprisingly, the urinary culture report came back from the lab late the following day (obviously in response to the pressure from Dr. Schlein.) He determined that a different antibiotic was required and he was able to get that new prescription filled by my pharmacy the day before we were scheduled to leave. I began to think that we should cancel the cruise because I was concerned that the infection might get worse and we would be overseas. Sooooo…I texted Dr. Schlein on Sunday that we were freaking out and seriously considering canceling our trip. He called us immediately and insisted that under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should we allow an easily treatable UTI to interfere with our plans. He made it clear that Joel would be feeling much better in 2 or 3 days at most and that we should go and enjoy our trip with no worries. He put our concerns at ease and made us feel secure in moving forward with our plans. Dr. Schlein’s keen awareness of both Joel’s “pseudo-hypochondria” and my “craziness,” after 20 years of being his patients, he was able to calm our fears and send us on our “Trip of a lifetime!” For this and countless other reasons over the years, we will always be grateful to Dr. Schlein and will remain his patients as long as he continues his extraordinary practice.
