Don't know where I would be without Dr. Coan!
I became a patient of Dr. Mary Coan several years ago - when her office was located in Gananda. A few people at the chiropractor's office where I was going had recommended her. The fact that I'm still her patient....probably 20?? years later says a lot. When she moved her office to Clifton Springs - I followed her. Where I used to drive 10 minutes to her office, I now drive 40+ minutes. (But, because she has helped me so much, I mostly just go there for 'well' visits.) She is quick to talk about what I can do to heal my own body and changes I can make to be healthier. If I need an antibiotic or something like that, she will certainly do that. But she tries to empower her patients to take better care of themselves. When my blood sugar numbers were going up, she told me if I didn't make changes, I would surely become diabetic. She sent me home with a blood glucose monitor. I checked it 2 hours after every meal. It was a great way to find out which foods I was eating made my BS go up. Many surprises!! She has talked to me many times about issues with weight, emotional issues, diabetes, heart health, and so much more. I was eventually diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, but because of Dr. Coan I was able to manage it with diet and excersise. for quite awhile. . She has walked with me every step of the way....cheering me on when I do well and having the tough talks when I don't. Tough love. I have learned so much for her and I cannot imagine having anyone else for my primary care doctor. She has always spent as much time as needed at my appointments. When she and her staff made the decision to become part of MDVIP it was a tough decision for her/them but one that Dr. Coan felt she had to do in order to give her patients the time and care we deserved. My friends thought I was crazy to 'pay to have my doctor be my doctor." but there was no question that I would do this. Like I said, I don't know where I'd be without her. She has so much passion for what she does and really wants everyone to take care of themselves. When I switched from being on insulin, to start on Trulicity, she had me text her my BS readings every night for a few weeks so she could tell me how much insulin to take, in order to ween me off of the insulin gradually and properly. I don't know of any doctor that would do this. I could go on and on about how much she has helped me. People often ask me how I know so much about various health issues that I have...that they also have. I tell them my doctor taught me. They don't have doctors that do what she dos. She goes out of her way to tell me more about all of it and what I can do - always with her help. She is one of a kind!
