Consistency in the delivery of superb medical care
At the occasion of the National Doctor's Day, I am taking this opportunity to recognize Dr. Ava Kaufman for her outstanding medical care. Over the many years of being my physician, I have been most impressed by her ability for diagnosing health problems and recommending appropriate interventions. On one occasion, she called me at home and told me to report to the local emergency room immediately after she received a laboratory report indicating electrolytes depletion. This was caused by my decision of drinking large amount of water, within a short period of time, as I was suspecting passing kidney stones. At the ER, I was informed that my condition could have become a life and death situation without prompt intervention. The positive outcome was a direct result of Dr. Kaufman 's response. Besides this particular event, most of my contacts with her has been through the yearly wellness visits. However, I also had to see her for various medical situations requiring treatments, such urinary tract infections, allergies, and shingles. As a result of many visits, I was able to formulate a most favorable impression of not only her professional competence but also of her outstanding interpersonal skills. Indeed, she is personable, tactful, respectful and accepting of her patient. On one occasion, she realized that I was reluctant to take Statins which she recommended as a result of elevated cholesterol. Hence, with grace, support, and medical data she convinced me that, while acknowledging my position, the treatment was indicated. At this point, I will add that Kaufman's presence is always there even if you are not in her office. This gives the patient a sense of safety and security, knowing that she will be there in time of medical needs. Indeed, her influence goes beyond her office walls. In closing, I think it is important for me to recognize her outstanding nurse and receptionist which are part of her team that she created. This is also a testimony of what kind of person and physician she is.
