I'm truly privileged to offer my thoughts about Dr. Jim Parsons of Raleigh, NC. He has been my primary care physician for 45 years, and this long term relationship is likely sufficient and a testament to explain how much I appreciate Dr. Parson's and value his care through the years. But there's certainly more that just the number of years he has been caring for me. It's the quality of his care, his thorough medical guidance, and his forthright and clear explanations of clinical tests and medical conditions I've encountered through those years. Dr. Parsons will call me, if necessary, during his off hours to make sure I'm doing OK. He did so when I suffered an extremely painful and debilitating episode of gout in 2006. And, more recently, when I was faced with the reality of prostrate cancer, it was Dr. Parsons who reassured me and offered important, realistic guidance on my options for treatment. He referred me to an excellent urologist who removed my prostrate and the cancer. And when I suddenly experienced excruciating abdominal pain that same year, it was Dr. Parsons who immediately recognized my symptoms as a bowel obstruction. My medical outcome was a good one with no complications during my brief hospitalization for treatment. Again, it was Dr. Parsons who told me what I needed to do.
I'm also recalling a time when my 96 year old mother required rehabilitative and convalescent care at a facility in Raleigh where Dr. Parsons is the Medical Director. He offered constant, compassionate care for my mother during a difficult time when she experienced congestive heart failure. Dr. Parsons made sure that our family knew exactly what was happening each day, and it was Dr. Parsons' personal and attentive care for her that eased her transition from life to death.
I can continue with many, many similar stories. I believe I'm most grateful for Dr. Parsons' personal care for me - I'm not just another patient to him, and I have entrusted my health and well-being to him because I know that he will always be available for helping me through medical and health-related challenges so long as he is practicing medicine.
I realize how fortunate I am now that I'm in my mid-70's to have a physician who understands the kinds of health care issues I may be facing in the future because of his deep knowledge of geriatric medicine. I don't visit him for routine check-ups as often as I should because my health is good. But when I need him, I know he's a phone call away and will be immediately responsive and thorough in assuring proper treatment and medical guidance. It's that high degree of trust and reassurance that I find so encouraging - and that's why I'm so deeply grateful for his care of me.
