Analogy or Metaphor?

My Maui doctor, Dr. Samuel Johnsen, has a very entertaining way of explaining any ailment you might find yourself experiencing. No matter what concern I might present to him about my health, you can be assured he will find an analogy or metaphor to explain what is going on. I’m never quite sure if it is an analogy or metaphor that he is using (my English teacher would be disappointed that I never fully understood the difference) but it is highly entertaining and relatable. For example: when I had a lingering dry, scratchy, throat following an upper respiratory infection, he explained it much like touching a hot stove and getting burned. You have removed your hand from the stove but the tender, sore burned area remains and takes time to heal. Totally easy to understand! He has a wonderful sense of humor, is reassuring, thorough and is never rushed. An added bonus is he is always just a text away and responds immediately to my questions. His relaxed style makes you feel comfortable and at ease. Just an all-around great man and doctor. Mahalo Dr. Johnsen! His office staff and nurses are equally wonderful. They greet you by name and are very competent.
