Amazing doctor/friend
I was new to the area and working in the float pool at St. Elizabeth Hospital in 2005. I was needing to find a primary physician and had been observing and evaluating numerous doctors that I came in contact with on the job. One evening I was taking care of a very sick man whose family members were asking a lot of questions that I was not able to answer. When Dr. Blahey came into the nurse's station I told her that the family needed some answers. She quickly went into the room, sat down with the family and explained what was happening with their loved one. She was so kind and thorough with them and stayed until they were comfortable. She asked if they had any more concerns before leaving the room.
When she returned to the nurses station I asked if she was taking new patients because I was needing a doctor. She accepted me as a patient right then and there. I was able to schedule an appointment when I called the next day. I have been her patient now for 19 years and continue to be amazed at her knowledge and caring attitude. She has become not only my doctor but my friend. She includes me in deciding what route to take in all situations. I totally trust her and appreciate her making me feel a part in the decision making. She has called me at home to discuss treatment options, lab results, checking on me after illnesses, or generally just caring about how I'm doing.
Before leaving this site I also want to give her nurse, Tonya, some kudos for being always available, friendly and very knowledgeable. I appreciate the treatment I get from both of them.
