Above and Beyond
My wife and I started going to Dr. Romero some 6 yrs ago. She practices medicine from a "preventive" approach. Her annual physical is extremely detailed and in-depth. She spends an enormous amount of time explaining everything in detail so you understand it. Let it be known that I am that "frightened patient"!! As such, I used to ask her every year if I could skip the physical part of my annual, if my PSA was normal. She always said "NO, you have family history". Well, ya know where this is going.... Last August, she felt something very very small and a little hard. She told me to come back in 3 months to check it again. Again, low-normal PSA, but she again felt something very small. She had me get a MRI. Sure enough, a very very small "indeterment" nodule was found on my prostate. She then personally called my chosen Urologist (who she did not know) to tell him about myself and my history. He did a biopsy in 2 days, and sure enough, low grade cancer. WOW! I was shocked and obviously upset. He assured me that I would be fine, and he proceeded to tell me, and I quote, "Dude, this Dr. Romero lady SAVED your life" (he told me this 3 times). "This is extremely early and very small, I don't know how she felt it!!!!"
What do ya say to somebody who went so far "above and beyond" her obligation to me? Ive always told her how lucky I felt to have her as my doctor. But, I had no idea how factual that was going to become. I truly wish everybody could have a Dr. Romero in their lives. How fortunate I am!!!!!
