In 2009 I was diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus. On the same day I was able to see Dr. Winkler and asked him to find the very best surgeon and team of doctors to give me my best chance of survival. He immediately went to work and assembled a great team including a surgeon from UCLA who exclusively deals with cancer of the esophagus, a radiation oncologist, a chemotherapy oncologist and himself. This team enabled me to overcome the cancer and lead a very active and happy life.
After my second chemotherapy treatment. I developed constant and significant pain in my right leg. While on vacation, Dr. Winkler arranged for me to have an ultrasound on my right leg the same day. Further he called the doctor doing the review of the ultrasound and had that person do the analysis immediately. It was discovered that I had a massive blood clot in my lower right leg. Still on vacation, Dr. Winkler instructed me to go directly from the ultrasound facility to the emergency room of a local hospital. He met me there and arranged to have my treatment expedited. It turns out that the blood clot had also gone to my lungs and his immediate attention again saved my life. I am very fortunate to have someone as dedicated and knowledgeable as Dr. Winkler as my physician.
