I was born and raised in Dalton, Georgia but have spent almost my entire adult life living in Augusta with my wife, Dr. Jennifer Pedersen. After medical school, I pursued fellowship training in nephrology. After fellowship, I remained on faculty at Augusta University and have spent the past 16 years practicing medicine and distinguishing myself as a clinician and educator. Outside of medicine, Jennifer and I are raising two wonderful daughters (Lucy and Julia) who currently attend Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School in downtown Augusta. I love golf, college football, good food and entertaining.
During my medical career, I have had the privilege of teaching the art of medicine to countless medical students, internal medicine residents and nephrology fellows; but I feel my most important contribution has been to educate and guide my patients through our complex health care system. I believe effective education leads to patient empowerment and is necessary for individual outcomes. It is my belief that maintaining a healthy lifestyle is a form of “treatment” and is often more effective than any medication or therapy I can prescribe. My goal is to help my patients lead active and healthy lives and emphasize the preventive services unique to our practice and MDVIP.
I am board-certified in Internal Medicine, Nephrology and Clinical Hypertension. I am detail-oriented by nature but understand the importance of the “big picture” when caring for patients. I want to get to know you as a person so that I may understand your goals. My goal is to provide care to you by applying my expertise in the context of a thoughtful, meaningful doctor-patient relationship. As a team, we will establish a plan of care emphasizing scientific medical evidence so that you may better live your best life.
Outside the office setting, you may have concerns about unexpected changes to your body or health. I want and need to know such concerns. I want to be available to you to alleviate your anxieties, limit the need to utilize urgent care services and prevent unnecessary hospital admissions. In the event you are hospitalized, I will make every attempt to visit you and will maintain close communication with the hospital-based physicians.
By joining my MDVIP-affiliated practice, I pledge to provide all the expertise and services you deserve.
