In 2014 I decided to replace my primary care doctor and made an appointment with Dr Lie. I had not met her but based on friend’s positive recommendations I decided to make an appointment. Unfortunately I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer at this time and luckily my daughter called Dr Lie to ask if she would come meet with me in my hospital room. I am an active person. If I see something that needs doing...I do it. It becomes the next project. Summer is approaching, but this year I will be more discerning about tackling one particular project. This year I will curb my enthusiasm and show the utmost restraint as it applies to thinning the overgrowth of brush in my back yard. With wild abandon and not a bit of caution, and certainly no gloves or long sleeves or long pants; I lurched and grabbed, and cut ,and pulled at the acre full of tangled wild vines. With little or no regard as to the composition of the overgrowth, I just grabbed and chopped. I did not discriminate , but this is the 1 time I should have discriminated. I then loaded up bundles to carry to the curb. If you are more cautious or certainly if you are smarter than me then you knew before me that my bundles were full of poison ivy. The trademark tingling started and then the red patches appeared. I became delusional, not from insane pain, but with the idea that I could get it under control. Suffice it to say that after going through 2 boxes of bandaids and gauze and a bottle of pink lotion with no lessening of welts, and fine tiny yellowish bubbles on every finger, and knees and thighs and wrist multiplying daily, I knew I needed Dr. Chiao Yung Lie! Getting rid of the poison ivy was an ordeal. And this is why I'm so indebted to Dr. Lie . She was there when I needed her. She was available in office and over the phone AND face timing to see the changes in the condition. She stuck with me and was cautious yet determined to battle this poison that I am so very allergic to. It took many , many, many, many, weeks and 3 rounds of steroids and lots of caring and consultation to get my condition managed. I am so thankful to have Dr. Lie as my doctor. As far as I am concerned, Dr. Lie is the antidote to my poison ivy.

It is my belief that each patient is a unique human being. The science of medicine aims to diagnose and treat disease. However, the art of medicine encompasses knowing the person who has the disease and never losing sight that we are treating an individual, not a disease.

My approach is to personalize medical care to fit the patient’s specific circumstances, and to pay acute attention to the whole person. I recognize that achieving wellness is a collaborative effort, and that the patient’s input and goals are essential to successful outcomes.

The journey of healthier living can be reached by combining medical expertise with personal knowledge. My hope is that we will take this journey together.
